The woman caught in the act of adultery (John 7:53-8:11) depicts the power of God’s un-merited favor as it is extended to one who humbles him/herself before Christ seeking mercy.
Although the text doesn’t specifically mention what Jesus was writing in the sand, Dr. Benton believes the story is all about God’s grace.
“Grace is always extended to those who humble themselves before the Lord and seek His mercy. It is my belief that whatever it was that Jesus wrote on the ground that day, it spelled “Grace.”
- Dr. Benton in his doctorate dissertation, “Hope in the Glory of God.”
